John McConnell, a humanist and peace activist, initiated earth day in April 22nd 1969. His idea was approved and supported by Senator Gaylord Nelson who was then proposed the idea of Earth day to the congress every April 22. The Senator’s proposal was approved and as follow up, first earth day was celebrated in April 22 1970. 20,000,000 Americans followed the first earth day and since that time, the issue of Earth day echoed around the world. In 1990, Earth Day became a new international celebration after 200,000,000 people from 141 different countries participated in the celebration. Year after Year, the buzz of earth day was getting stronger. Global warming issue and recycling was other fuel what make the earth day become more popular

Different from 30 years ago, 32 percent of water we waste today is reused after recycled. About 75 percent of all water that came out from the ground is recycled and reused. The recycling is necessary to balance water resources in the planet.

To produce one newspaper issue on Sunday, American publishers required five hundred thousand trees to print the issue. From all these number, 30 percent of them are recycled. Beside Glass, Plastic should be recycle because it will take around a century up to 400 years for our landfill to decompose the plastic

8. Why 22 April
John McConnell pick 22 April as earth day because that date is the first day of Spring on Northern Hemisphere of the earth and first day of Fall on the Southern hemisphere of the world. Not many people know this
